Gaza has been a hotly debated topic in recent days, with hopes rising for a possible resolution to the ongoing conflict. On Monday afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Joe Biden’s proposal for Gaza was “incomplete,” according to a government spokesperson. The roadmap proposed by Israel included several key components, including a six-week ceasefire in the first phase and an Israeli withdrawal from densely populated areas of Gaza. Additionally, certain hostages and Palestinian prisoners were released during this phase.

While Hamas viewed the roadmap positively, disagreements remained between the two sides on key issues. Hamas continued to demand a permanent ceasefire and a total Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, while Netanyahu maintained that the conditions for a permanent ceasefire had not changed. These conditions included the destruction of Hamas and the release of all hostages. Despite these differences, there was hope that successful negotiations could lead to an end to the fighting permanently, with all detained Israelis returning home. However, if negotiations extended beyond the initial period, the ceasefire would be temporarily extended.
