IonQ, a quantum computing company based in College Park, Maryland, has appointed Dean Kassmann as the senior vice president of its newly established engineering and technology division. Kassmann, who previously served as the vice president of engineering at IonQ, has been credited with instrumental roles in the company’s significant achievements over the past two years.

Kassmann’s professional background includes leadership roles at Blue Origin, an aerospace company, as well as experience as a business analyst at Amazon and a senior technologist at Aspen Technology. His diverse expertise and accomplishments make him a valuable asset to IonQ’s senior management team.

IonQ’s President and CEO, Peter Chapman, expressed confidence in Kassmann’s technical and business acumen, stating that he is the ideal candidate to lead the engineering and technology division given his contributions and vision for the future of quantum computing. Since joining IonQ towards the end of 2021, Kassmann and his team have successfully filed a total of 188 U.S. and foreign patent applications.
