In 2022, Mammel Hall in Omaha, Nebraska, celebrated the establishment of a scholarship in honor of Dean Emeritus Louis Pol, who led the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business for 16 years. The scholarship aims to support business students in financial need and was the result of fundraising efforts during the annual Genius of Warren Buffett events at UNO. Over $329,000 has been raised so far, with an additional $40,000 being contributed this year.

Dean Emeritus Louis Pol expressed his gratitude for the support the scholarship will provide to students pursuing their educational goals. Despite feeling uncomfortable having a fund in his name, Pol emphasized that the focus should be on the impact it will have on students who need it most. The scholarship fund is a testament to the empowerment it will bring to students in need of financial assistance.

The Dean Emeritus Louis Pol Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Robert P. Miles, who has been teaching the Genius of Warren Buffett course at UNO since 2011. The course has attracted students from around the world, who also participate in events like the Berkshire System Summit and Value Investor Conference leading up to the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders’ meeting. The scholarship fund is expected to be merged with the Genius of Warren Buffett Investment Fund, creating greater support for the program through the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Through this collaboration, the annual scholarship distributions are projected to increase to over $14,000 per year, leaving behind a lasting legacy for the Genius of Warren Buffett course.
