The Entebbe 2024 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports has come to an end in central Uganda, featuring intense competition in chess and attracting participants from 16 different countries. This was not the first time that Entebbe has hosted a FISU event, as they previously held the FISU Championship Cross Country in 2014.

The women’s blitz event saw Poland sweep the podium, with Julia Antolak taking the gold medal, Liwia Jarocka securing silver, and Anna Kubicka earning the bronze. In the women’s classic event, Aakanksha Hagawane from India emerged victorious after a closely contested competition that ended in a four-way tie. Meanwhile, Milosz Szpar of Poland clinched the gold medal in the men’s classic tournament ahead of two French competitors.

In the men’s blitz event, Igor Janik from Poland took home the gold medal once again. Janik has a history of success in FISU events and was closely followed by Richard Mladek of the Czech Republic and Richard Turcan of Slovakia in the standings. Overall, this thrilling event showcased the skill and talent of chess players from around the world.
