Knownwell, a weight-inclusive primary care and metabolic health provider backed by Andreessen Horowitz, recently announced its acquisition of AI-enabled precision metabolic health management company Alfie Health. The acquisition aims to enhance knownwell’s clinical decision support offerings by integrating Alfie Health’s ObesityRx platform into its care model.

Alfie Health, based in New York, developed the AI-enabled ObesityRx platform, which analyzes medical histories to determine the most effective treatments for improving an individual’s metabolic health. As part of the acquisition, Alfie Health’s standalone access and affiliated clinics were shut down. The integration of Alfie Health’s platform into knownwell’s care model is expected to deepen its value-based care infrastructure and enhance its clinical decision support.

Knownwell offers weight-inclusive primary care and metabolic health services both in-person and virtually. With brick-and-mortar locations in Texas and New England, the company plans to open an office in Minnesota later this year. Founder James Chaukos has been appointed as the first chief operating officer of knownwell, bringing his experience as a cofounder and executive from Cricket Health. John Frager has been named as the chief growth officer of knownwell, contributing his expertise in growth strategies from Carbon Health.

The acquisition aligns with knownwell’s mission to provide patients with best-in-class obesity management, as stated by Alexander Singh, founder, and CEO of Alfie Health. Both companies have received significant funding in the past year: Knownwell secured $4.5 million in seed funding and $20 million in Series A funding while Alfie Health raised $2.1 million for its weight loss platform. The acquisition is part of a larger trend in the healthcare industry where companies like Lumen are focused on weight management and metabolic health through innovative technologies and services.
