The Indian cricket team’s victory against South Africa in the T20 World Cup was celebrated with great enthusiasm across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations to the team on their triumph, calling them an inspiration to millions of Indians. In a phone call, he praised coach Rahul Dravid for his impactful contribution to Indian cricket during his tenure as Head Coach, which ended after the match. Under Dravid’s guidance, India ended an 11-year ICC title drought with their victory.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were singled out for their exceptional leadership and remarkable performance in the final match. Both players announced their T20I retirements following the win, with Kohli sharing his decision immediately after the triumph and Sharma revealing it in the post-match press conference. The Prime Minister commended Hardik Pandya for his final over and Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding catch that led to the dismissal of David Miller.

Home Minister Amit Shah also called Dravid and Sharma to extend his congratulations on the team’s victory. In a video message, PM Modi lauded the team for winning not only the World Cup but also the hearts of millions of Indians.
