India ended their impressive run in the World Cup with a second place finish. Despite the disappointment, there was still a sense of unity within the team as they gathered for one last occasion to award the best fielder medal, presented by fielding coach T Dilip. The winners had been announced in creative ways throughout the tournament, and Virat Kohli was the recipient of the final medal.
After India’s semi-final match against New Zealand, Dilip declared Ravindra Jadeja as the winner through a dressing-room TV announcement. Suryakumar Yadav, who had previously won the medal, presented it to Jadeja with a touch of poetry. In other locations, announcements for other medal recipients were made in various creative manners such as groundsmen holding up signs and using Spidercam technology.
In Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar announced Shreyas Iyer as the medal winner after India defeated Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, after their win over England, the winner was illuminated in a dark stadium. The giant screen on the ground, Spidercam technology and even local field crew were used to announce medal recipients in different locations.
