The return of the team was delayed due to a hurricane shutdown in Barbados. India achieved a remarkable seven-run victory over South Africa in a thrilling final, ending their drought in global International Cricket Council limited-overs competitions. Arun Dhumal, a cricket official, described the T20 triumph as a “lifetime experience.” This win marked India’s first World Cup title since winning the 50-over version in 2011. Despite losses in other international tournaments, including the World Test Championship final to Australia and the 50-over World Cup final at home, this win brought pride to the nation.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the cricketers were scheduled to travel to Mumbai for an open bus roadshow and later celebrate at Wankhede Stadium with a ceremony. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a cash bonus of 1.25 billion rupees ($15 million) for the winning squad. After retiring from international T20 matches, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from international T20 matches.
