The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a prize money of Rs. 125 crore for the senior men’s Indian side following their T20 World Cup 2024 victory over South Africa in Barbados. This victory marked India’s first T20 World Cup title since the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa, ending an 11-year ICC title drought since their Champions Trophy win in England in 2013.

India won a tournament prize money of $2.45 million (Rs. 20.42 crore) for clinching the title with a seven-run win in the final, while runners-up South Africa received $1.28 million (Rs. 10.67 crore) as prize money. For their exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, BCCI secretary Jay Shah congratulated the team on social media.

Following their historic win, senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirements from T20I format. Rohit and Virat, the top two highest run-getters in the format and T20 World Cup across editions, decided to call time on their T20I careers. Head coach Rahul Dravid, who also completed his tenure with the team, achieved his first major ICC tournament win with the national team.
