The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expressed its appreciation for the approval of the Bases Law by the Deputies and awaited the decision of the Senate. However, the IMF emphasized that any new retirement initiative must enhance the sustainability of the pension system while maintaining fiscal program goals.

If the technical report submitted by the staff is approved, the IMF would provide a disbursement of US$800 million. The IMF recognized that the Javier Milei government has met its fiscal, monetary, and reserve accumulation targets. However, the IMF highlighted the need for improving the quality of measures to ensure sustainability and fairness, as well as anchoring inflation and safeguarding reserves.

The IMF suggested that micro-level reforms should be prioritized to remove barriers to entry, promote formal employment, and attract private investment in Argentina. The IMF also stressed the importance of expanding political support for macroeconomic stabilization and reform, acknowledging the approval of key fiscal and structural legislation in the Lower House.
