Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops may have used a trebuchet to launch flaming projectiles over the Lebanese border, according to reports. The use of the catapult was reportedly a “local initiative” and not widely used by the IDF. The trebuchet is a medieval war weapon that was used to launch projectiles and destroy fortifications.
The IDF stated that the trebuchet was being used to burn vegetation in order to easily identify Hezbollah members trying to reach the border. Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, has been exchanging fire with the Israeli army from Lebanon in support of the Palestinian Islamist movement in Gaza. The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides.
Hezbollah intensified its attacks after one of its important commanders, Taleb Sami Abdallah, died. In retaliation, Hezbollah targeted northern Israel, causing fires, evacuations and destruction. The situation remains tense in the region with ongoing conflicts and casualties reported.
