The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is set to take place in Nassau County, New York next month on June 3. However, the event and associated activities in New York City have raised concerns of potential violence or disruption by extremists, according to a new assessment by the NYPD Intel Bureau.

The assessment highlights recent pro-ISIS propaganda that specifically mentioned the upcoming India-Pakistan match at the event. This, along with ongoing propaganda identifying large sports venues as priority targets, has led to increased vigilance among security partners in the public and private sectors.

Referencing a March attack outside Moscow and other incidents, the NYPD assessment points to the current threat environment, including a recent post on a pro-ISIS channel showing a figure with a rifle and drones in the background that mentioned “Nassau Stadium.” Law enforcement throughout the region has been made aware of these threats.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that there will be heightened security measures in response to the potential threat, including increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes. The governor’s office has stated that there is a credible public safety threat in relation to the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
