The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup brought together Sri Lanka and South Africa in a thrilling match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. South Africa’s batting lineup was led by Aiden Markram, who had an impressive strike rate of 190 for Delhi Capitals in the IPL season of 2024. He was joined by Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs, all known for their aggressive batting styles.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s spinners, including captain Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, faced a daunting task against South Africa’s powerful hitters. Both spinners had come back from recent injuries and would need to be at their best to contain the South African batting lineup. The Sri Lankan team’s bowling attack relied on pacer Kagiso Rabada and left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for wickets.

As the match began, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first against South Africa’s batting prowess. Fans could follow the live score and updates of the match from New York as both teams gave it their all on the field. After five overs, Sri Lanka had scored 22 runs with Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis at the crease, facing bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Ottneil Baartman from South Africa.
