Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have come up with a new “snow chain-integrated tire technology” to improve driving in winter conditions. This innovative technology involves snow chains that are built into tires, eliminating the need for drivers to constantly add and remove chains. According to Hyundai, when the driver activates the function, an electric current is applied to the material inside the tire, causing it to revert to its original shape. This material forms a ‘J’ shape, pushing the module out of the tire to make contact with the road surface. This process improves grip, stability, and safety on snowy roads, enhancing the overall driving experience in winter weather.

Although this design has not yet been made available to the public, further technological development, durability, and performance tests are still being conducted. Once these tests are completed and the product meets safety standards, it is possible that this new tire technology may become available to consumers in the future. This advancement in tire technology showcases Hyundai and Kia’s commitment to innovation and improving the driving experience for customers in all weather conditions.
