Thousands of runners gathered at the Huntington Convention Center during the Health and Fitness Expo to pick up their bib numbers in preparation for this weekend’s marathon. Each runner had their own unique motivations for participating in the event. Gary Kaleta shared his goal of getting healthy and running 5K’s this year, while Gary Kirby reflected on his last marathon in 2015 and how it marked the end of his running career.

Executive director Jack Staph revealed that around 10,000 people were registered for the runs this weekend, including a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and full marathon. Staph emphasized the importance of safety and health in organizing the event, stating that it was a year-round job that involved planning for next year on Tuesday. He also mentioned the security measures in place to ensure a safe run, with a full security staff hired to secure the course and grounds around it.

As friends and family members prepared for the upcoming weekend, Staph was excited for his favorite part of the run: seeing the emotions at the finish line. The festivities were scheduled to commence on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. for the 5K and 10K, with the full marathon starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
