Hungary has taken the lead in the new Council of the EU Presidency, with a focus on making Europe a digital powerhouse. To gain insight into this, we spoke with Vinnai Balázs, the president of IVSZ, our Hungarian member. According to Balázs, Hungary should prioritize promoting AI innovation, closing the digital skills gap, and supporting tech companies to grow within the EU single market.

When asked about the priority in the tech field, Balázs emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence, data, and cloud technologies. He also stressed the need for educating people in digital skills across the EU, as this is crucial to success in the digital age. Hungary’s approach to digital can provide valuable lessons for the EU, including user-friendly online services, strong connectivity infrastructure, and a talented workforce that contributes to Hungary’s reputation as a technological hub in Europe.

Education is key to becoming a digital powerhouse according to Balázs. He highlighted that there is a widening gap between digitally educated and non-digitally educated individuals especially with advancements in AI. Addressing this gap through education is essential for future success. Furthermore, focusing on building a single market where businesses can thrive is crucial for growth and innovation in Europe.
