In an interview with an Italian newspaper on June 4, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his belief that conflicts are caused by people and that with determination, there are many opportunities for reconciliation. He praised Donald Trump, the US Republican presidential candidate, as someone capable of achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine within 24 hours and then commencing peace negotiations.

Orban publicly supported Trump and met with him in March, where he declared Trump as a good friend with a specific plan to end the fighting in Ukraine. However, Trump’s claims of being able to end hostilities within 24 hours have been met with skepticism from Kremlin officials and Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Despite this, Orban has remained steadfast in his opposition to increasing arms aid to Ukraine, expressing concerns about prolonging the conflict and advocating for all parties to come to the negotiating table to find a diplomatic solution.

Orban emphasized the need for Europe to prioritize peace over conflict and political games, stating that his country supports finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine. He warned against the implications of escalating hostilities and the potential for NATO intervention if the situation worsens.
