In June 2021, Huawei unveiled its own mobile operating system, HarmonyOS, to the public. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Chinese company as it has amassed 900 million active users. Despite facing challenges due to US trade restrictions, which had previously blocked its access to Google’s Android operating system, Huawei developed its own operating system and has seen a surge in mobile phone sales since the beginning of the year.

Huawei surprised the world with a new series of Mate60 mobile phones equipped with chips developed in China. This move was seen as Huawei’s return to the mobile phone market in a higher price category after facing challenges due to American restrictions. Research from TechInsights confirmed that the Mate60 is powered by the Kirin 9000S chip, thought to be produced by Chinese company SMIC.

Despite these challenges, Huawei’s revenue grew by 9.63 percent last year, and board member Ken Hu has forecasted even higher revenue for 2024. The company has regained its position as the top mobile phone seller on the domestic market, surpassing Apple in the first weeks of 2024, according to a Counterpoint report. Sales of new Huawei phones have surged by 72 percent in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year.

Looking ahead, Huawei plans to introduce the Mate 70, the successor to the Mate 60 Pro, featuring the HarmonyOS Next operating system by the end of the year. With its continued success and innovation in technology development and marketing strategy
