IoT technology has emerged as a crucial tool in promoting sustainable development and energy efficiency. In Spain, nearly 19% of IoT-connected devices are focused on the energy efficiency sector, according to a study by UnaBiz. The study analyzed over 5.4 million connected devices and found that 18.76% of them are dedicated to this field.

UnaBiz emphasizes that the current energy landscape presents challenges and opportunities for consumers, businesses, and society as a whole, making energy management crucial. IoT technology is proving to be instrumental in this regard, enabling the monitoring, controlling, and optimization of energy consumption through connected devices that collect and analyze data in real-time. This technology is helping to promote the energy transition and sustainable development.

The leading regions in Spain for applying IoT for energy management include the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Andalusia, and Madrid. A significant portion of connected devices are being used for water consumption monitoring to detect leaks and prevent waste as well as optimizing irrigation systems to save resources. Furthermore, IoT devices are being utilized for crop monitoring to provide accurate data on soil conditions, humidity, and temperature, allowing farmers to optimize irrigation and fertilizer use.
