The Houston Texans have officially signed their final draft pick, second-round offensive tackle Blake Fisher, to a four-year contract worth approximately $6.6 million, including a $1.616 million signing bonus. Selected 59th overall, Fisher is expected to provide quality depth and potential insurance behind Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and former first-round pick Tytus Howard.

Fisher’s experience at Notre Dame suggests he is part of the Texans’ long-term plans beyond 2024. As a three-year starter at Notre Dame, Fisher made history as the first true freshman to start at left tackle for the Irish. He later shifted to the right side of the line due to the emergence of first-round pick Joe Alt.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans commended Fisher for his performance at Notre Dame and noted that he will add to the competition within the offensive line group. Fisher started 27 games in his three seasons with the Irish, showcasing his strength in run blocking and high IQ on the field.

Fisher emphasized his intelligence and physicality as key attributes that will benefit the Texans. The team will kick off mandatory team minicamp next month, where Fisher will have the opportunity to continue his development and contribute to the team’s success.

The signing of Fisher completes the Texans’ 2022 draft class, which includes first-round picks defensive end Christian Wykoff and tight end Brevin Jordan, as well as fourth-round running back Royce Freeman Jr.

Overall, this draft class is expected to bring quality depth and potential insurance across multiple positions for the Texans’ offense and defense. With all their picks officially signed on contracts, they can now focus on training camp and preparing for their upcoming season.
