The Houston Texans have a new focus on building a potent offense around rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, with the signing of wide receiver Nico Collins to a $72 million contract extension being the latest example of this strategy. The three-year, $75 million deal includes a guaranteed $52 million for Collins, who emerged as one of the NFL’s most productive receivers and a favorite target of Stroud during the previous season.

In 2023, Collins had an outstanding season, recording 80 catches for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns in just 15 games. This was by far his most successful year in the NFL. His performance was crucial to Stroud’s success as well, as he led the league in interception ratio and passing yards per game that year. Together, they helped lead the Texans to their first playoff appearance since 2019 and ultimately defeat the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.

The Texans are continuing to bolster their offense with additional talent in the offseason. They acquired four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs and former Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon to join forces with breakout rookie Tank Dell and form an even stronger receiving unit for next season. With these additions, it looks like Houston is primed to continue its recent success on offense.
