In 2024, Dick Miller, a World War Two veteran who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, will be honored as the grand marshal for the Memorial Day Parade in Aurora. The community came together to recognize him as a special veteran who survived the destruction of his ship by Japanese forces.

During a ceremony at Aurora City Hall, Miller led the crowd in singing “God Bless America” and was recognized by the city, which officially declared his birthday, June 26, as Dick Miller Day.
