Glen Sather, a Hall of Famer in hockey who served as a senior advisor to the owner and alternative governor for the Rangers, announced his retirement from the sport on Wednesday morning. Sather, who is 80 years old, also played for and coached the Rangers, winning a total of five Stanley Cups as an executive and coach during his time with the Edmonton Oilers.

During his first 19 years with the Rangers organization as president, Sather joined the team in 2000 and was the team’s general manager for the first 14 seasons. In a statement announcing his retirement, Sather expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be associated with the NHL, the Rangers, and the Oilers. He called it one of the great privileges of his life.
