The oral arguments in the appeal case brought by former US President Donald Trump to remove prosecutor Fani Willis from Georgia are set to begin on October 4. Willis is also pursuing charges against Trump and his co-defendants for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. This delays the start of the trial before the November 5 elections.
In March, a judge determined that there was no conflict of interest between Willis and lead prosecutor Nathan Wade in the Trump case. However, the judge acknowledged an appearance of inappropriate behavior and criticized Willis for a lack of judgment. The judge required either Willis and her team to step down or for Wade to resign. Shortly after, Wade announced his resignation.
The Georgia case is one of three pending criminal cases against Trump, with federal cases in Washington and Florida also awaiting trial dates. Last week, Trump became the first former president to be convicted in a criminal case in New York, facing 34 charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11.
