Milwaukee’s car theft epidemic has escalated with a new scheme targeting high-end Dodges, Chryslers, and Jeeps with Street Racing Technology (SRT). Milwaukee police have confirmed an ongoing heist involving these specific vehicles. The investigation began on March 1, 2024, after officials observed a pattern of stolen cars which included several Dodge Chargers taken on various dates. Suspects would reportedly break a window, tow the car to an unlicensed auto shop, then dismantle it for valuable parts or fix it with a fake VIN number and title.

Stolen cars were tracked down using license plate reading cameras around the city, leading authorities to two implicated shops ā€“ one located on W Burleigh St. and the other on N 32nd St., approximately ten minutes apart. Upon searching these establishments, police found multiple loaded firearms and stolen plates. One man, identified as Ike Reed, age 20, was taken into custody. Reed faces several counts of conspiracy to commit theft but has claimed minimal involvement in the thefts, stating he was only a tow truck driver and car mechanic.

Three stolen cars have been successfully recovered so far. Reed is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in court on June 20th at 1:30 p.m. Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to safety and security measures in their vehicles. Stellantis reassures customers that their vehicles meet or surpass federal safety standards and employ industry-standard vehicle security technology. The company encourages motorists to take precautions in securing their vehicles by emphasizing the protection of their customers as a top priority.

The rise in car thefts in Milwaukee is not a new phenomenon but this recent scheme targeting high-end cars has caused concern among law enforcement officials and vehicle manufacturers alike. The investigation into this heist highlights the importance of implementing effective security measures to protect both individuals and property from theft or damage.

In conclusion, Car thefts are not new in Milwaukee area but this recent scheme targeting higher-end Dodges
