The replacement turf field for Les Murakami Stadium is expected to be ready for the 2025 University of Hawaii baseball season, but it will be cutting it close. This much-needed project has been delayed for years, but UH is finally making progress.

The current turf at Les Murakami Stadium has been in place since 2008 and is showing signs of wear. Initially, the replacement turf was supposed to be installed before the 2024 season, but the funds were redirected to other needs on Lower Campus. However, UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl stated that the estimated $2.3 million project for turf and installation is on track to be completed in January 2025. A contractor has yet to be selected and the specific type of turf to be used has not been decided. Work is scheduled to begin in December, just in time for the start of the college baseball season in mid-February.

In addition to the turf replacement, UH is also considering adding a new batting cage at the stadium. The existing batting cage along the third base line has been without a roof for the past two years. However, Brian McInnis from Spectrum News Hawaii who covers the state’s sports scene stated that more information about this project can be obtained by contacting him at [brian.mcinnis@charter.com](mailto:brian.mcinnis@charter.com).
