The Hampton Roads Convention Center was buzzing with excitement on Monday night, as the area’s top athletes from the past, present, and future were honored for their athletic achievements. The Peninsula Sports Club hosted the 74th Annual Headliner’s Night and recognized local collegiate and high school athletes for their accomplishments. Six high school students will receive a college scholarship as a reward for their hard work and dedication to sports.

The event featured an array of awards, including the recognition of Hampton native Tyrod Taylor as the Peninsula Sports Club Sportsperson of the Year. Taylor’s impressive resume in high school, college, and the NFL is nothing short of remarkable. In high school, he led the Hampton Crabbers to a state title with a 34-4 overall record over four varsity seasons. During his time at Virginia Tech, he was inducted into the Virginia Tech Hall of Fame and won numerous accolades, including ACC Player of the Year in 2010 and three ACC Championships.

Now heading into his thirteenth season in the NFL with the New York Jets, Taylor has an impressive career under his belt. He has made a Pro-Bowl appearance in 2015 and won a Super Bowl in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens. His journey has been nothing short of inspiring to all those who have known him throughout his career.
