Two senior Hamas officials responded to the ceasefire plan proposed by Israel and announced by Joe Biden to Egyptian and Qatari mediators. They did not confirm whether or not they accepted the plan, but emphasized the need for a complete halt to the aggression in Gaza. The response prioritizes the interests of the Palestinian people and calls for an end to the ongoing violence.

Hamas has amended certain elements of Israel’s proposal, including a timetable for a permanent ceasefire and the total withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. Discussions will continue through the Qatari and Egyptian mediators, in coordination with the United States. The UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution supporting the ceasefire plan, urging Hamas to accept it and calling on both parties to implement its terms without delay.

The truce plan in three phases involves a total ceasefire, release of hostages, and reconstruction of Gaza with US support. However, Hamas has not formally accepted the proposed roadmap for a ceasefire.
