This month, the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council held its annual gala with hundreds of attendees. Several awards were given out to outstanding individuals and companies in the technology industry.

During the event, President Robert Sandel of Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke was inducted into the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council Hall of Fame. Tiny Cargo Co. in Roanoke received the Hart of the Entrepreneur Award, with Spencer Marsh recognized as its chief scientific officer. Heather Lindberg and Kristylea Ojeda from Virginia Western Community College were honored with the STEM-H Educator Award.

Director Mark Levy of the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School for Science and Technology received the K-12 STEM-H Educator Award. Fermi Energy in Blacksburg was acknowledged as the Rising Star in Technology, while CEO Sarah Snider of BEAM Diagnostics in Roanoke was recognized as the Rising Star in Biotechnology. Read Montague, director of the Center for Human Neuroscience Research at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke, received the Innovator Award.

Chief Operating Officer Rob Day of TechLab in Blacksburg received the Regional Leadership Award, and CEO Adam Donato of Card Isle in Blacksburg was honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year. CytoRecovery in Blacksburg was named the Leading Small Tech Company, while Elbit Systems of America in Roanoke County received the award for Leading Large Tech Company. Hal Irvin, associate vice president for health sciences and technology outreach at
