The University of Haifa marked a significant milestone on Sunday, June 2, with the laying of the first stone for the Faculty of Medicine. This new medical faculty is set to open in the 2025-2026 academic year and will be made possible by a generous donation of 200 million shekels from the Amir family.

The private Reichman University is also planning to open its own medical faculty in the near future. Currently, Israel is home to six medical faculties located at various universities, including Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Bar-Ilan University (Safet campus), Ben-Gurion University, Ariel University, and the Technion in Haifa. Next year, the Technion will begin training 1200 students annually.

Operating on the basis of the Carmel Hospital and the Clalit Health Insurance Fund, the new medical faculty at the University of Haifa will initially train 60 students per year. This number is expected to increase to 150 students per year in the future.
