The Business Sustainability Luncheon, hosted by Ecolibrium3 in Duluth on Earth Day, brought together businesses and organizations to focus on the importance of sustainability. The event, held at Clyde Iron Works, featured a presentation on how industries such as steel, iron, concrete, and transportation can decarbonize and become more environmentally friendly. Jodi Slick, CEO of Ecolibrium3, emphasized the potential for Northeast Minnesota to play a key role in addressing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering economic development in the region.

The luncheon also recognized WLSSD as the first annual Eco Award recipient for their sustainability efforts. Marianne Bohren, the Executive Director of WLSSD, expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the organization’s role as a resource recovery facility rather than just a solid waste management facility. She emphasized the community benefits that can arise from innovative approaches to waste management.
