During her visit to Cedar Rapids for the Iowa Utility Association’s DEV24 conference at the Double Tree Hotel and Convention Center, Governor Kim Reynolds signed a law to overhaul Iowa’s mental health system. This significant legislation will now include substance abuse services and consolidate the mental health regions from 32 to 7 districts.

After addressing the conference attendees, Governor Reynolds was expected to sign off on a bill that would transform the state’s mental health system. This legislative action is aimed at improving access to mental health care and substance abuse treatment for Iowans.

In addition to these important changes to the state’s healthcare system, Governor Reynolds planned to sign two more bills later in the week. One of the bills focuses on prohibiting misleading food labels on certain products, while the other bill is designed to protect producers by reinstating the livestock capital gains deduction.
