Google’s latest update to the ‘Find My Device’ feature has given users the ability to locate devices and accessories even when they are disconnected. The new feature relies on a network of millions of Android devices and Bluetooth technology to detect nearby objects. It is activated by default on compatible mobile phones but can be deactivated from the settings.

The ‘Find My Device’ service enables users to locate a paired device or accessory remotely in cases of theft or loss. The most recent update allows the location to be identified even when disconnected from the Internet, thanks to the network of Android devices worldwide. This new feature is made possible by Bluetooth technology, which stores the most recent locations of nearby devices participating in the network. These locations are protected with a PIN, pattern, or password and can only be viewed by the user and those they share the device with.

Google has gradually activated the new function in Spain in recent days. Compatible Android devices are automatically enrolled in the network, but users can opt-out if they choose. The settings for this feature can be changed in the ‘Google’ section of the ‘Settings’ menu. In these settings, users can choose how location tracking works based on network connectivity. They have three options: work without a network, high-traffic areas with a network, or work with a network in all areas. Each option provides different levels of location tracking based on connectivity.

With this new update, users have more control over how their devices participate in the Android network for location tracking, enhancing both security and convenience when it comes to locating lost or stolen devices and accessories.
