The Czech Republic emerged victorious in the ice hockey world championship, defeating Switzerland 2-0. A packed Prague Arena erupted in celebration as David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins scored the first goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in the final period. Pastrnak expressed his immense pride and joy in winning the gold medal, especially in front of a home crowd that created an unforgettable atmosphere.

Pastrnak’s goal was set up by a pass from Tomas Kundratek, leading to his first goal of the tournament. David Kampf then scored the second goal into an empty net with 19 seconds left after Switzerland pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. Czech goaltender Lukas Dostal stopped 31 shots for the shutout, securing the seventh title for the Czech Republic.

This win marked the first title for Czechia since 2010, with previous victories by Czechoslovakia. Pastrnak and teammate Pavel Zacha joined the team after their NHL playoffs ended, playing only four games at the tournament. Switzerland, still seeking their first title, has placed as runners-up four times, with their closest loss in 2018.
