On Saturday, April 30th, a local Tai Chi club joined hundreds of other clubs from around the world in celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day in Triangle Park. The event, which has been taking place annually since 1999, aims to promote the numerous health benefits of practicing Tai Chi and QiGong.

The club has been participating in the event for the past three years and was excited to be part of the global movement once again. The purpose of the day is to create a wave of energy and intention for world peace and health, with clubs from at least 80 countries performing their forms at 10 a.m. local time.

Tai Chi is often described as “moving meditation,” requiring regular practice to achieve meditative benefits. Local beginner classes are available at the STEP Senior Center in Lock Haven for those interested in trying it out. In fact, Harvard Health Publications have recognized Tai Chi as “moving medication” due to its numerous health benefits, including improved balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
