The global market for Internet of Things (IoT) devices has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, particularly in 4th generation technologies like LTE-M and NB-IoT networks. This trend is expected to continue, with forecasts predicting trillions of IoT end units connecting to communication operators’ networks worldwide.

In Israel, the Ministry of Communications has taken steps to enhance competition in the IoT field by requiring number portability between operators. With the introduction of eSIM and iSIM technologies that eliminate physical SIM cards in IoT devices, this move will allow for easier switching between providers and increased consumer choice.

The Director General of the Ministry, Adv. Einbal Mashash, highlighted the potential of IoT to revolutionize technology, spur innovation, and generate economic benefits. By allocating additional numbers for IoT services, the government aims to support the rapid development of the field and improve the economy and public welfare across various industries.

As 5th generation infrastructure is retired and advanced services are needed in all sectors, this trend is expected to continue globally. The elimination of physical SIM cards through eSIM and iSIM technologies will only further propel the growth of IoT devices and their widespread adoption across industries.
