Thousands of people worldwide participated in mass yoga sessions on the 10th International Day of Yoga, engaging in the ancient physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that originated in India. The United Nations designated June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014 to promote the global benefits of practicing yoga.

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a group in a yoga session in Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region. Despite rain forcing the event indoors, thousands of government employees, teachers, and students from across Kashmir attended the session.

Around the world, people gathered to practice various yoga poses, meditation, and breathing exercises in celebration of the International Day of Yoga. The theme for this year’s event was “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the importance of achieving harmony between the mind and body for overall health and well-being.
