On Friday, July 19, 2024, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will be hosting “World Snake Day” from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This event will offer attendees the chance to see and touch live snakes, learn about the importance of Mississippi’s native snakes and how to differentiate between venomous and non-venomous snakes.

Museum Director Charles Knight is thrilled to welcome visitors to this interactive and educational event. During World Snake Day, museum educators and research scientists will be on hand with live snakes to answer any questions attendees may have. Along with the live snakes, there will be ongoing crafts and educational activities centered around snakes. This event is not only informative but also Scout-friendly as Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi can earn the “MDWFP Museum of Natural Science Snake Day Patch” and Boy Scouts can fulfill requirements for their “Reptile and Amphibian Merit Badge.”
