On June 1st, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) is hosting an event called “Eye of the Storm” in partnership with Florida International University’s International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). The event will offer a day of education, museum exploration, and weather preparedness for all ages. Admission to MODS will be free on this day.

The “Eye of the Storm” event will feature a variety of interactive and family-friendly activities. These include presentations and demonstrations by hurricane experts, air cannon missile demonstrations by IHRC, wind engineering by FIU, NOAA Hurricane Hunters, live weather theater shows, local TV meteorologists, a kids zone, weather science demos, and all-day museum exploration. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with emergency vehicles, participate in a “Touch a Truck” activity, and meet and greet with South Florida first responders.

Sponsors for the “Eye of the Storm” event include the Broward County Cultural Division, City of Fort Lauderdale Emergency Management, FPL, International Hurricane Protection Association, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce.
