The open enrollment period for individual health insurance coverage on healthcare.gov has officially started and will continue until January 15. Residents of Hawaii are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to shop and compare health insurance plans, including those offered through the state marketplace.

According to Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito, enhanced subsidies are available for eligible new and returning consumers in 2024 to help reduce premiums. This financial assistance is a result of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

To ensure that they have the best coverage for their needs, residents are advised to carefully review their current health care policies and identify any gaps or areas where they may need additional coverage. They should also consider factors such as out-of-pocket costs and network provider options when comparing plans.

Consumers who wish to renew their existing health insurance plans can do so during this enrollment period, which ends on December 15th. For more information on health insurance in Hawaii, residents can visit cca.hawaii.gov/ins/consumers/health.
