On the fifth day of the pool competitions at the European Championships in Belgrade, German swimmers continued their pursuit of medals. One of the most successful swimmers on this day was Celine Rieder, who won silver in the 1500 meter freestyle and bronze in the 4×100 meter freestyle mixed relay.

Rieder, who trains with long-distance national coach Bernd Berkhahn, finished the 1500 meter freestyle in 16:15.98 minutes, coming in second behind European champion Vivien Jackl from Hungary. Another German finalist, Jeannette Spiwoks, finished in fifth place.

Hungary also took home a gold medal on this day, winning the 4×100 meter freestyle mixed relay. The German team consisting of Martin Wrede, Peter Varjasi, Nicole Maier and Nina Sandrine Jazy finished third with a time of 3:27.01 minutes, just trailing behind the winning relay team by 1.32 seconds. The team also narrowly missed out on silver as Poland finished ahead by only 0.48 seconds.
