German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock advocated for the release of taxes collected by the Israeli Government for the Palestinian Authority as a crucial resource for the Authority to rebuild during a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Baerbock emphasized the need for these funds for the Palestinian Authority to create a viable foundation for a future Palestinian state. She highlighted the importance of Israeli banks facilitating these payments to Palestinian banks to support the rebuilding process.

In addition to advocating for financial support, Baerbock announced an additional 19 million euros in humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip. This aid will be distributed by various organizations to provide essential resources to the population, including food baskets that cover 90% of daily food needs. She praised the work of organizations like the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees and the World Food Programme for their contributions to supporting vulnerable communities in Gaza.

Following her meeting with Palestinian officials, Baerbock met with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz to discuss the situation in Gaza and recent developments in the conflict. She called on Hamas to accept a ceasefire proposal put forward by President Joe Biden to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. Baerbock also criticized extremist voices within the Israeli government for promoting settler violence in the West Bank and urged them to prioritize peace and security in the region.

Furthermore, Baerbock expressed concern over reports of harsh treatment of Palestinian prisoners by Israeli authorities and called for accountability for any violations of international law. She urged Israeli authorities to address these reports and provide explanations for their actions, particularly in relation to military operations in places like Jenin that have raised concerns about human rights abuses.
