Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is reportedly being pursued by Napoli and Roma in the race to sign him. The 35-year-old German center back, who is set to leave the Bundesliga giants on a free transfer, is looking for a new challenge in Europe rather than considering moves to Saudi Arabia or the MLS.

Roma, led by Daniele De Rossi, has been interested in Hummels for some time with hopes of strengthening their squad for a Champions League push. They see him as the ideal replacement for Chris Smalling. However, Napoli has recently shown interest in the veteran defender as they aim to improve their defense following a disappointing 2023-24 season under the management of Antonio Conte.

According to reports in today’s Corriere dello Sport, Napoli is weighing up the possibility of competing with Roma for Hummels’ signature. The Italian side is looking to reinforce their defense as they seek to recover from their underwhelming season. In addition to Napoli and Roma, Mallorca is also in the running to sign Hummels, with some sources suggesting that personal terms have already been agreed upon, indicating that his departure from Borussia Dortmund may be imminent.
