Georgia’s recruiting efforts are off to a strong start in June, with another exciting addition to the class of 2026. On Thursday night, Derrek Cooper, a four-star running back from Hollywood, Florida, announced his commitment to Georgia over Alabama, Florida State and Miami.

Cooper is an athlete with experience playing both sides of the ball in high school. He is particularly skilled at catching the ball and playing as a receiver out of the backfield – something that running backs coach Josh Crawford values greatly. In an interview with On3, Cooper revealed that Crawford sees him as a key piece of Georgia’s offensive plan.

Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, Cooper played high school football at Chaminade-Madonna Prep. Last year, he caught nine passes for 71 yards as a receiver and spent most of his time at safety, recording 49 tackles and four interceptions.

Cooper joins five-star quarterback Jared Curtis as the Bulldogs’ second commit in the class of 2026. With talented players like Cooper choosing to join the team, it seems like Georgia’s recruiting efforts are paying off in a big way.
