Christo Lamprecht, a senior at Georgia Tech and the top-ranked amateur in the world, was forced to withdraw from the Yellowjackets’ lineup on Saturday morning due to a back injury. Lamprecht had opened with a 2-under 70 on Friday at Omni La Costa’s North Course, but was experiencing back soreness that he couldn’t work through before his scheduled tee time at 9:14 a.m. PT. Aidan Tran was chosen to take Lamprecht’s place in the lineup.

Unfortunately, Lamprecht’s hopes for an individual title and a PGA Tour card have been dashed due to his withdrawal. He was ranked second in the PGA Tour University standings behind Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen at the start of the week, and a win in this tournament would have given him a chance at the coveted PGA Tour card. However, with his last-place finish due to the injury, he will now miss out on that opportunity, allowing Thorbjornsen to secure the card.

Despite the setback, Lamprecht will earn full status on the Korn Ferry Tour as the runner-up in the PGA Tour U standings. However, his injury has prevented him from having a shot at securing a guaranteed job on the PGA Tour. There is still a possibility that Lamprecht may return to Georgia Tech’s lineup on Sunday if his back condition improves, but he won’t be able to compete for the stroke-play title.
