Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff has recently authored a bill that will provide over $250,000 in funding to the University of Georgia’s UGA Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The aim of the project is to support small businesses in Georgia and help them access new funding opportunities. Ossoff emphasized the importance of ensuring that entrepreneurs from all regions of the state, not just major metro areas, have access to capital, mentorship, and markets.

The UGA SBDC has assisted over 2,000 businesses in starting up and helped small business owners secure over $1 billion in financing over the past five years. Kyle Hensel, the director of Continuing Education for the UGA SBDC, stated that the funding will enable them to assist more women and veterans in obtaining certifications that can help them access government contracts and increase sales.

The UGA SBDC operates 18 locations across the state, providing resources and support to small businesses. The funding will assist in expanding their reach and impact. The Centers offer various programs and services to help small business owners succeed, including webinars on certifications for women and veterans and in-person programs tailored to veterans. This investment will further enhance the SBDC’s ability to support small businesses throughout Georgia.
