The rigid hierarchies, excessive hours, and culture of always being present in Asian companies have led many young workers to feel profoundly unhappy with their current situations.

According to a yearly global survey on employee well-being conducted by Gallup, only 18% of individuals under the age of 35 in East Asia report feeling engaged at work, which is lower than the already lukewarm global average of 23%. Japan and Hong Kong rank near the bottom globally in terms of employee engagement across all age demographics.
