In the Gaza Strip, rescue and civil defense teams have been working tirelessly to recover bodies from the rubble of the Jabalia displaced persons camp. This camp, located in the north of Gaza, was the scene of a major Israeli military incursion that ended at the end of last month. Teams have already retrieved 120 bodies, with fifty being recovered in the last few hours. The bodies were found in homes, shelters, schools and hospitals that were destroyed during the conflict.

According to reports from the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli forces claim to have “eliminated” hundreds of terrorists and recovered the bodies of seven individuals kidnapped on October 7. However, local Palestinian sources have painted a different picture, detailing atrocities and crimes committed by the occupation forces. These include mass destruction of homes, service facilities and public infrastructure.

On May 11th, tanks entered Jabalia for an operation focused on specific areas while initially targeting refugee camp with aerial bombardments. Ground operations later ensued causing large-scale destruction which left many families displaced and mourning their loved ones.

Amidst chaos and devastation, the resilience of people in Gaza shines through as they work tirelessly to recover from the aftermath of conflict. The recovery efforts continue as more bodies are found among wreckage and community comes together to support those affected by violence.
