Gayle King, a 69-year-old media personality, is proving that aging is not for the faint of heart. She has landed the cover of the 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, a surprise to her during a segment on “CBS Mornings.”

The cover was a result of King’s work with the magazine for several years. Initially, she was only expected to be featured inside the magazine. However, when she learned that she had been chosen as one of four familiar faces for the cover alongside Hunter McGrady, Kate Upton and Chrissy Teigen, she couldn’t contain her excitement.

King shared her personal struggles with self-acceptance and body image in an interview with People magazine. She mentioned how her grandmother once told her that Mother Nature was not kind to her appearance. Despite this comment, King felt confident and fabulous on the cover and expressed gratitude for being included in such a prestigious publication.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and features seven special editions, including three focusing on 27 legendary cover stars such as Martha Stewart, Maye Musk and Tyra Banks. The anniversary issue will be available for purchase starting Friday.

Gayle King’s appearance on the cover marks a significant moment in her career and personal journey towards self-acceptance and celebration. Her presence reminds us all that we are worthy of love and appreciation regardless of our age or appearance.
