On Thursday, the forum will hold its second meeting to discuss cease-fire efforts in the Middle East. This month, G-7 leaders endorsed a three-phase plan outlined by Biden to end the war in Gaza.
In response to the proposal, Hamas suggested changes on Tuesday, including the need for assurances about a permanent end to the conflict. An official close to the talks shared this information on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing diplomatic effort. Secretary of State Antony Blinken acknowledged that some of the changes are feasible while others are not during remarks in Doha, Qatar, alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan informed reporters that the United States is collaborating with Egyptians and Qataris to bridge any remaining gaps in cease-fire discussions. Sullivan emphasized that it is time for a cease-fire to begin and stated that President Biden will consult with G-7 leaders regarding ongoing efforts to make it happen. He also highlighted that President Biden has full backing from G-7 leaders for his actions in this matter.
